iPad 2 Smart Cover seems a grease trap, leaves marks behind (Discussion)

After some extended use of the new Apple Smart Cover, it seems that the microfiber liner tends to pick up oily residue from the screen. This is actually an advertised feature for the new iPad accessory, however, it appears that when closed the cover will transfer that residue back to a clean touch screen.

That is alot of grease, mines never did that, but do wipe down the case sometimes.

@rebcorellc I see your point, but honestly it’s not a case. It’s just a screen cover if you don’t want a bulky case and/or plan on tossing it into another bag or briefcase. That’s why it’s not called smart “case”, it’s called a smart “cover”.
I’m tired of seeing people buy all kinds of products, then complain when they either don’t understand they bought the wrong thing for what they need or didn’t understand what it was supposed to do in the first place.

I make sure MY HANDS ARE CLEAN before I touch my screen. So if that much oil is building up on the inside of the smart cover, then you’ve created an issue yourself. I’ve owned several Iphones and Ipod touches and have never had this issue.

I love my iPad 2. I once said “hey it’s just a big ass iPod touch”. NO it’s not. Buy it and you will love it. My parents did buy me an ipad2 32gb for my birthday with this smart cover. It’s great. I don’t even use my Mac any more. If you think the iPad is stupid and you don’t own one, well you sir are a loooooooooser.

The point of a microtones cloth is so that you don’t use chemicals to clean the screen the spray that you used is being absorbed by the cloth and then is being transferred to the iPad.

Thank you so much for this video. I was originally going to buy a smart cover and pair it up with a clear hard shell back cover for my ipad 2; but this is the second video I’ve seen that someone says it leaves oil and dust behind. Now I’ll just buy the Targus 360 case for my Ipad 2.

but what you should do is clean the screen and then put a clear screen protecter and finger print resistant thing than the problem will not be as bad

First thing it’s polyurethane ( not plastic ), and the inside ( the soft stuff ) is microfiber, and if your telling us to clean it tell us how, post a video on how to clean??
